Setting up PayPal

How to connect a PayPal account so donors can pay by card or PayPal balance — and the funds go straight to you.

Connecting PayPal is required if you want donors to pay by card or PayPal. Without it, the only payment option supporters see is Cash (which means they have to hand cash to you in person).

What you need

A PayPal account in your name (or your organization's name). Personal PayPal accounts work fine — you don't need a business account.

Connect your PayPal email to a campaign

  1. Open your campaign from the dashboard and click Edit Campaign.
  2. Scroll to the PayPal Payment Setup section.
  3. Enter the email address associated with your PayPal account.
  4. Click Connect PayPal Account.

That's it. Donations are now sent directly to that PayPal account when supporters check out.

Connect PayPal at the organization level (if you're running an org)

If you set up an Organization (multi-player team fundraiser), PayPal is configured once on the organization, not per-player.

  1. Open your org dashboard at /dashboard/org/[slug].
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Enter your PayPal email under PayPal email and save.

Every player page under that org will route donations to that PayPal account automatically.

Common questions

Does SquareFundr take a fee? No — donations go directly to your PayPal account. (PayPal itself charges its standard transaction fees, ~2.9% + $0.30 per transaction.)

Can I change my PayPal email later? Yes. Edit the campaign (or org) and update the email. Future donations will go to the new account; past donations are unaffected.
